Amends the public official oath of office in Colorado Revised Statutes 24-12-101 to allow officials to choose between "swear," "affirm," or "swear by the everliving God" when taking their oath.

Requires that any official who chooses to swear an oath with the phrase "swear by the everliving God" must do so with an uplifted hand.

Changes language from "electing" to "choosing" to swear an oath and removes previous language restricting the religious oath option.

Takes effect on August 8, 2018, unless a referendum petition is filed, in which case it requires voter approval at the November 2018 general election.

Effectiveness is contingent upon House Bill 18-1138 becoming law.
