Expands the definition of "emergency medical care provider" to include persons providing emergency care in detention facilities, in addition to those in hospitals, health care facilities, and ambulances.

Adds emergency medical care providers working in detention facilities to the list of protected victims under assault in the first degree statutes when assaulted while performing their duties.

Adds emergency medical care providers working in detention facilities to the list of protected victims under assault in the second degree statutes when assaulted while lawfully confined or in custody.

Requires that sentences imposed for assaulting detention facility emergency medical care providers must be served in the department of corrections and run consecutively with any other sentences being served.

Takes effect July 1, 2019, and applies to offenses committed on or after that date.
