Requires employers in businesses where gratuities are customary to notify patrons in writing that gratuities are shared among employees, using methods such as notices on menus, table tents, or receipts.

Replaces the previous requirement of posting a conspicuous 12-by-15 inch printed card in the place of business with the new written notice requirement to patrons.

Establishes that gratuities remain the sole property of employees unless the employer provides the required notice to patrons about gratuity sharing.

Permits employers to require employees to share or allocate gratuities on a preestablished basis among employees, consistent with existing law.

Takes effect August 2, 2019, or 90 days after final adjournment of the legislature, unless subject to a referendum petition requiring approval by voters in November 2020.
