HB 19-1255 Summary

• Department of Motor Vehicles shall issue Mesa Verde National Park special license plates for motorcycles, passenger cars, trucks, and noncommercial vehicles not exceeding 16,000 pounds empty weight.

• Applicants must donate between $25-$75 to a Colorado-based nonprofit organization designated by the state every five years that meets specified criteria including 20+ years in existence, tax-exempt status, and a history of funding park improvements and educational programs.

• An additional one-time fee of $25 is collected for plate issuance or replacement, with proceeds credited to the Highway Users Tax Fund.

• Personalized Mesa Verde license plates are available upon payment of additional personalization fees, with annual renewal fees required thereafter.

• The act takes effect 90 days after final adjournment of the general assembly (August 2, 2019), unless subject to a referendum petition requiring voter approval in November 2020.
