SB19-050: District Attorney Office Salary

• Establishes minimum salaries effective July 1, 2020 for assistant district attorneys (matching county court judge salary) and chief deputy district attorneys (matching district court magistrate salary) in every judicial district.

• Requires state funding to cover 80% of assistant district attorney salaries and 50% of chief deputy district attorney salaries, with counties paying the remaining balance proportional to their population.

• Sets minimum salary for district attorneys effective January 1, 2021 at the amount earned by a full-time district court judge, with state contributing 80% and counties contributing 20%.

• Allows counties to make a one-time irrevocable election to require new assistant district attorneys to join the public employees' retirement association's defined benefit plan, with state paying 80% and counties paying 20% of employer contributions.

• Assistant district attorneys already employed when the election is made have 60 days to choose between joining the defined benefit plan or continuing their existing retirement plan.
