Retail community pharmacies must notify customers that prescription readers are available free of charge to individuals who are blind or visually impaired.

Upon request and at no cost, pharmacies must provide a prescription reader device to blind or visually impaired individuals for at least the duration of the prescription.

Pharmacies must ensure prescription drug labels are compatible with prescription reader devices that audibly convey label information.

Requirements do not apply to prescriptions dispensed without a label, prescriptions dispensed through the mail, mail-order pharmacies, correctional facility pharmacies, or government-operated pharmacies.

The act takes effect on August 5, 2020, unless subject to a referendum petition, in which case it requires voter approval at the November 2020 general election.
