HB 20-1121: Retaliation Against An Elected Official

• Expands existing crime of retaliation against judges to include elected officials and their families, making retaliation against elected officials a class 4 felony
• Defines "elected official" as any person serving in an elected position in Colorado at any level of government
• Criminalizes credible threats, harassment, or acts of harm or injury committed as retaliation against elected officials related to their official duties, their family members, persons in close relationships, or household residents
• Effective date is July 1, 2020, and applies to offenses committed on or after that date
• May require five-year appropriation to cover increased capital construction, operational costs, and parole costs for the Department of Corrections
