HB 20-1357: Media Literacy Implementation

• Department of Education shall create and maintain an online resource bank of media literacy materials and resources, including at minimum those recommended by the media literacy advisory committee established in HB 19-1110.

• Department shall provide technical assistance to school districts upon request for implementing media literacy policies, procedures, best practices, and recommendations, subject to available resources.

• State Board of Education shall adopt revisions to reading, writing, and civics standards by June 30, 2021 that incorporate media literacy knowledge and skills substantially consistent with the media literacy advisory committee's recommendations.

• Subsequent reviews and adoptions of revisions to media literacy standards shall follow the standard review and revision schedule established for other education standards.

• Act subject to referendum petition and takes effect August 5, 2020, or if referendum filed, upon approval by voters in November 2020 general election.
