SB20-057 Summary

• Expands the definition of "employer" in firefighter benefit statutes (Parts 3 and 4 of CRS 29-5) to include the Division of Fire Prevention and Control within the Department of Public Safety, effective July 1, 2020.

• Includes Division of Fire Prevention and Control employees classified as Firefighter I through Firefighter VII in the definition of "state trooper" for purposes of employee benefits under CRS 24-51-101, effective July 1, 2020.

• Appropriates $977 from the general fund to the Department of Health Care Policy and Financing, which flows through the Department of Public Health and Environment to the Department of Public Safety's Division of Fire Prevention and Control.

• Appropriates $22,598 from various cash funds (training funds, fire suppression fund, fireworks licensing fund, construction inspection funds, and gifts/grants) to the Division of Fire Prevention and Control for personal services and wildland fire management services in fiscal year 2020-21.

• Declares the act necessary for immediate preservation of public peace, health, or safety.
