HB20B-1011 Summary

• Prohibits the governor from renewing a disaster emergency declared for any infectious disease, medical, or health-related situation beyond 30 days.

• Authorizes the general assembly to extend health-related disaster emergencies for up to 60 days by adopting a joint resolution, with the ability to continue extending in successive 60-day periods as needed.

• Allows the governor or a 2/3 majority of each house to call an extraordinary session if the general assembly is not scheduled to convene when a disaster emergency is set to expire.

• Preserves the general assembly's ability to terminate a state of disaster emergency at any time by joint resolution.

• Takes effect 90 days after final adjournment of the general assembly, unless a referendum petition is filed, in which case it requires voter approval in November 2022.
