Courts must inform defendants with current or prior military service at their first appearance that they may be eligible for veteran-specific mental health treatment, substance use disorder treatment, and other services.

If a jurisdiction lacks a veterans treatment court, courts must inform defendants of their right to petition for transfer of probation supervision to a jurisdiction that has a veterans treatment court.

Veteran defendants with a diagnosable mental health condition related to military service may petition to transfer probation supervision to another jurisdiction's veterans treatment court with consent of the district attorney and any crime victims.

The receiving jurisdiction's veterans treatment court and district attorney must consent to the transfer and confirm they have adequate resources and support to accept the case before the court may grant the petition.

If the host jurisdiction revokes probation, it conducts the revocation hearing and refers the case back to the original jurisdiction for resentencing; minor violations may be addressed through graduated sanctions without revocation.
