HB 21-1081 Summary

• Extends the initial duration of a governor-declared state of disaster emergency from 30 days to 60 days

• Prohibits the governor from renewing or extending a state of disaster emergency beyond the initial 60 days

• Authorizes the General Assembly to extend a disaster emergency for up to 60 additional days at a time by adopting joint resolutions upon written request from the governor

• Allows the General Assembly to continue extending the disaster emergency in 60-day increments as long as deemed necessary, with each extension requiring a separate joint resolution and governor request

• Permits the governor or a two-thirds majority of General Assembly members to call an extraordinary legislative session if a regular session is not scheduled before a disaster emergency expires
