SB21-184: Ski Area Safety Plans and Accident Reporting

• Renames the "Ski Safety Act of 1979" to the "Ski Safety, Transparency, and Accountability Act" and requires all ski area operators to create, maintain, and publicly post a written safety plan detailing governance, management, operational roles, and practices to prevent accidents and reduce injury severity by September 30, 2021.

• Requires ski areas with a vertical drop of 500 feet or more and at least one elevated lift to produce annual death and injury reports by September 30, 2022, including operational statistics, terrain difficulty ratings, and total numbers of deaths and injuries requiring transport to medical facilities outside the ski area.

• Mandates ski area operators to maintain an electronic database of specific accident data elements (excluding injured person names), including age, gender, activity type, injury location, surface conditions, trauma scores, and equipment descriptions, made available to the public upon request.

• Makes failure to create, maintain, and publish a safety plan or provide required reports and data subject to disciplinary action by the passenger tramway safety board.

• Applies to conduct occurring on or after the effective date of the act.
