Governor may declare a state of disaster emergency that continues for up to 30 consecutive calendar days.

After 30 days, the emergency automatically terminates unless the general assembly extends it by joint resolution approved by at least two-thirds of each house.

Joint resolutions to extend the emergency do not require governor approval and must specify the length of extension.

If the general assembly has not extended the emergency before termination and is not in session, the governor may call a special legislative session to decide whether to extend or terminate.

The proposed constitutional amendment will be submitted to Colorado voters on November 8, 2022, and requires 55% voter approval to pass.
