Senate President Leroy Garcia appoints Cole Wist to the Independent Ethics Commission, succeeding Commissioner William Leone, for a four-year term commencing July 1, 2021 and ending June 30, 2025.

Cole Wist is an attorney with Squire Patton Boggs in Denver specializing in labor and employment matters, designated as a Colorado "Super Lawyer" from 2007 to present and recognized in "Best Lawyers in America" for Employment Law-Management from 2014 to present.

Wist served as a trustee on the Colorado Mesa University Board of Trustees in 2004-2005 and was appointed by Governor Bill Owens to the Governor's Task Force on Civil Justice Reform in 1999-2000.

Wist served two terms in the Colorado House of Representatives representing House District 37 starting January 12, 2016, serving on multiple committees including Business Affairs and Labor, Judiciary, and State Veterans and Military Affairs, and rising to Assistant Minority Leader.

Senate approval of the appointment requires a two-thirds vote of members elected to the Senate, as mandated by the state constitution and Colorado Revised Statutes.
