HB22-1136 Summary

• Requires schools offering comprehensive human sexuality instruction to include a 5-minute high-definition ultrasound video showing stages of human development.

• Video must show development of the brain, heart, and vital organs at 5 weeks of gestation, development of the heart and limbs at 8 weeks, and human development every 5 weeks during the second and third trimesters.

• Amends the definition of "human sexuality instruction" to include teaching about human development at each stage of development.

• Human sexuality instruction remains optional for school districts, but if offered, the instruction must be comprehensive and meet all content requirements including this ultrasound video requirement.

• Takes effect 90 days after final adjournment of the general assembly, unless subject to a referendum petition that would require voter approval at the November 2022 general election.
