Federal government employees who are not designated as Colorado peace officers must receive written authorization from the sheriff or the sheriff's designee before executing arrest or search warrants within the sheriff's jurisdiction.

Federal employees must provide the sheriff with a copy of the warrant, the name of the subject, probable cause justification, property location and items to be seized, and the time and place of intended execution.

The sheriff or designee must sign the authorization request in writing before the warrant can be executed.

Exceptions allow federal employees to execute warrants without sheriff permission if the arrest or search occurs on federal land, a crime is committed in the employee's presence, or the subject is the sheriff or county official.

An exception also applies if the federal employee has probable cause to believe the subject has a relationship with the sheriff that could result in advance notice of the arrest or search.
