Establishes a task force by July 1, 2022, to examine and recommend whether to improve access to community corrections programs for persons convicted of misdemeanors.

Task force must analyze the misdemeanor population by crime, risk assessment, gender, age, race, and ethnicity; evaluate program services and costs; and determine necessary funding and legislative changes.

Task force composition includes representatives from community corrections programs, community corrections boards, probation departments, law enforcement, district attorneys, public defenders, advocacy organizations for formerly incarcerated persons and victims' rights, and at least one person with residential community corrections program experience.

Task force must convene by July 29, 2022, and submit findings and recommendations to the commission by July 1, 2023.

During the 2024 legislative session, the commission must present task force findings in the required SMART Government Act hearing; the task force provisions expire July 1, 2024.
