Former Colorado House Representative Joe Nuñez died on November 16, 2020, and was born April 5, 1937, in Greeley, Colorado.

Nuñez served as a Vietnam veteran in the United States Air Force, retiring at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel from F.E. Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne, Wyoming, and received the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with palm.

Nuñez was elected to the Colorado House of Representatives for House District 64 in 1998 and reelected in 2000, serving three years on the Transportation and Energy, Appropriations, and Education Committees and as Vice-chair for the State, Veterans, and Military Affairs Committee.

Nuñez also served as representative for the Secretary of the United States Department of Labor for the Rocky Mountain Region and as Regional Director for the United States Department of Health and Human Services.
