SB 22-012 Summary

• State Archivist must submit a proposal by February 28, 2023 to the State Capitol Building Advisory Committee for creating a permanent public display of the original Colorado Constitution draft inside the State Capitol Building.

• State Archivist in partnership with History Colorado shall create an online exhibition of the Colorado Constitution, including all current amendments, available in searchable format through the Office of State Archives and History Colorado websites.

• State Archivist and History Colorado shall create opportunities to provide updated physical copies of the Constitution and related educational materials to state offices, ensuring accessibility and user-friendly format for the general population.

• State Archives remains legal custodian of the original Constitution draft, may allow periodic removal for restoration or temporary museum displays, and may accept private donations and grants to fund implementation.

• No state general or cash funds may be appropriated for implementation; all expenditures must come from private sources, bequests, gifts, or grants.
