CO SB101

Creates the Colorado School Resource Officer Grant Program within the Department of Education to provide grants to public school districts, boards of cooperative services, charter schools, and institute charter schools for hiring school resource officers.

Requires the State Board of Education to award grants before July 1, 2023, based on applications that include information about current officers employed, student violations in the previous two school years, student enrollment numbers, and salary requirements for officers to be hired.

Appropriates $5 million from the General Fund for fiscal year 2022-23, with the Department of Education permitted to use up to 2% of the appropriation for implementation and administration costs.

Requires grant money to be distributed within 60 days after awards are made, with the State Board considering greatest intended impact across Colorado and greatest demonstrated need when awarding grants.

Repeals the grant program effective July 1, 2024.
