SB22-116 Summary

• Expands Colorado's occupational credential portability program to include individuals licensed, certified, or registered through the federal government and those holding military occupational specialties as defined in Section 24-4-201.

• Allows applicants to obtain Colorado licenses, certifications, registrations, or enrollments by submitting proof of at least one year of current and valid credentials under a jurisdiction with a substantially similar scope of practice, rather than requiring proof of substantially equivalent experience.

• Clarifies that the portability program does not prohibit individuals from applying for occupational licenses, registrations, or certifications under other statutes or rules.

• Exempts engineers, surveyors, and architects (regulated under Article 120 of Title 12) from the occupational credential portability program requirements.

• Takes effect 90 days after the 2022 legislative session ends, unless subject to a referendum petition filed within that period, in which case it requires voter approval at the November 2022 election.
