Senate Resolution 22-002: Missing Persons Day 2022

• Designates February 4 of each year as Missing Persons Day in Colorado to raise awareness about missing persons and honor affected families and friends

• Recognizes the missing persons epidemic in America as "The Silent Mass Disaster" and acknowledges the ongoing suffering of families left behind

• Corrects the dangerous misconception that a person must be absent for 24 hours before being legally classified as missing; emphasizes investigations should begin immediately when evidence of violence or unusual absence exists

• References the AMBER Alert Program established in Colorado in 2002, which has successfully recovered 1,085 children nationally since 1996; notes the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children lists 126 active missing child cases in Colorado

• Acknowledges hundreds of currently missing Coloradans by name and directs copies of the resolution to victim advocacy organizations including FOHVAMP, Colorado Victims for Justice, COVA, and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation
