CO HB1014

Establishes new law requiring drivers to yield right-of-way to large vehicles (trucks, buses, emergency vehicles, or recreational vehicles exceeding 35 feet in length or 10 feet in width) when entering, exiting, or driving in roundabout circulatory lanes at the same time or presenting an immediate hazard.

Does not require yielding to large vehicles that are only approaching but have not yet entered the roundabout, nor does it require allowing a large vehicle behind to pass.

When two large vehicles enter, exit, or drive in a roundabout simultaneously or presenting immediate hazard, the driver on the right must yield to the driver on the left.

Classifies violations as Class A traffic infractions with a penalty of $70.00 and surcharge of $11.00.

Takes effect October 1, 2023, subject to potential referendum petition; applies to offenses committed on or after the effective date.
