HB23-1070: Mental Health Professionals Practice Requirements

• Reduces marriage and family therapist licensure requirement from at least 2 years of post-master's practice to at least 1 year of post-master's practice, effective January 1, 2024.

• Reduces licensed professional counselor licensure requirement from at least 2 years of post-master's practice to at least 1 year of post-master's practice, effective January 1, 2024.

• Maintains requirement of at least 1,500 hours of face-to-face direct client contact under clinical supervision for marriage and family therapists.

• Subject to referendum petition; if challenged within 90 days after final adjournment, the law will not take effect unless approved by voters at the November 2024 general election.
