CO SB009

Prohibits prescribers from issuing opioid prescriptions exceeding 90 morphine milligram equivalents per day for medications dispensed or administered outside healthcare facilities or the prescriber's practice location.

Creates an exception to the 90 morphine milligram equivalent daily limit for patients diagnosed with intractable pain.

Defines intractable pain as pain that is excruciating, constant, incurable, and of such severity that it dominates virtually every conscious moment and produces mental and physical debilitation.

Defines health-care facility as a facility licensed or certified by the Department of Public Health and Environment pursuant to Section 25-1.5-103.

Applies to prescriptions issued by dentists, physicians, physician assistants, advanced practice registered nurses, optometrists, podiatrists, and veterinarians.
