SB23-014: Disordered Eating Prevention Program

• Establishes a Disordered Eating Prevention Program within the Department of Public Health and Environment's Prevention Services Division, to be created by July 1, 2024.

• Requires the program to create annually-updated, culturally sensitive resources on disordered eating risk and prevention factors (in English and Spanish), partner with schools and the Office of Suicide Prevention, and focus on underserved communities including youth, older adults, people of color, and LGBTQ individuals.

• Creates a Disordered Eating Prevention Research Grant Program to provide financial assistance to individuals, nonprofits, and for-profit organizations conducting research on root causes, risk factors, and protective factors for disordered eating in Colorado youth, adults, and older adults.

• Division must adopt grant program guidelines by October 1, 2024, and submit annual reports to legislative committees by November 1 beginning in 2025 summarizing grant recipients' research findings and recommendations for improving prevention.

• Appropriates $26,679 for the 2023-24 fiscal year (0.2 FTE) from the general fund; the research grant program sunsets July 1, 2027.
