Senate Bill 23-023 Summary

• Public schools in Colorado are strongly encouraged to adopt CPR and automated external defibrillator (AED) curriculum for students in grades 9-12.

• Instruction must incorporate hands-on psychomotor skills for performing CPR and include training programs from the list maintained by the Office of Cardiac Arrest Management.

• The Department of Education must develop CPR and AED curriculum guidelines for grades 9-12 as part of the Colorado Comprehensive Health Education Program.

• Schools are strongly encouraged to implement the CPR and AED curriculum in their local comprehensive health education programs.

• The act takes effect 90 days after final adjournment of the general assembly, unless a referendum petition is filed, in which case voter approval at the November 2024 general election is required.
