SB23-044 Summary

• Increases the annual number of veterinarian applicants selected for the loan repayment program from four to six qualified applicants.

• Raises the maximum total loan repayment eligibility from $70,000 to $90,000 across all years of service.

• Increases individual year repayment amounts: first year from $10,000 to $15,000, second year from $15,000 to $20,000, third year from $20,000 to $25,000, and fourth year from $25,000 to $30,000.

• Transfers $540,000 from the general fund to the veterinary education loan repayment fund on September 1, 2023.

• Removes the requirement that applicants must have graduated from veterinary school in 2017 or later, allowing graduates from any accredited school to apply.
