SB 23-101: Candidate Ballot Access for Primary Elections

• Eliminates the political party assembly nomination process for major political party candidates to access primary election ballots; candidates must gather petition signatures instead

• Eliminates the political party assembly nomination process for minor political party candidates

• Changes the earliest date candidates may circulate petitions and gather signatures from the third Tuesday in January to the date the Secretary of State approves the petition as to form

• Removes the prohibition against unaffiliated voters signing petitions for major political party candidates and allows unaffiliated voters to sign one petition per office

• Aligns petition signature requirements and petition circulation deadlines for minor political party candidates with those of major political party candidates
