SB23-203 Summary

• Grants the Office of the Inspector General in the Department of Corrections authority to seek out and arrest fugitives from correctional facilities upon request from a department division or law enforcement agency.

• Authorizes the Inspector General and investigators to assist law enforcement agencies in apprehending fugitives from justice throughout Colorado.

• Requires the Department of Corrections to report annually to the House and Senate Judiciary Committees starting March 1, 2024, detailing use of Inspector General fugitive apprehension services including number of uses, investigators required, time committed, and costs incurred.

• Takes effect 12:01 a.m. on the day following the 90-day period after final adjournment of the general assembly, unless subject to a referendum petition requiring voter approval in November 2024.
