HB24-1002: Social Work Licensure Compact Summary

• Enacts the Social Work Licensure Compact, allowing regulated social workers licensed in one member state to practice in other member states under a multistate license and authorization.

• Establishes the Social Work Licensure Compact Commission as a joint government agency comprising member states, with authority to promulgate rules, manage a data system, and oversee compact administration.

• Requires Colorado's State Board of Social Work Examiners to participate in the compact, designate a delegate to the Commission, facilitate criminal background checks, and submit licensure and disciplinary information to a shared data system.

• Permits remote states to take adverse action against practitioners' multistate authorization to practice within that state, while only home states may take action against the multistate license itself.

• Takes effect when enacted into law in the seventh member state; appropriates $78,750 to the Division of Professions and Occupations for implementation and $35,000 to the Office of Information Technology.
