HB 24-1100 Summary

• Adds a new qualification requirement for coroners elected on or after November 5, 2024, in counties with populations greater than 150,000
• Requires coroners in qualifying counties to be certified by and in good standing with either the American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators or the American Board of Pathology in forensic pathology
• Maintains existing requirements that coroners have a high school diploma or equivalent (or college degree) and provide fingerprints
• Takes effect 90 days after final adjournment of the general assembly, unless subject to a referendum petition filed by voters
• If a referendum petition is filed, the act takes effect only upon voter approval at the November 2024 general election
