HB24-1226 Summary

• Expands the Colorado National Guard tuition assistance program to cover spouses and children of members in addition to members themselves.

• Dependents must be under 26 years old and have a parent member who served at least 6 years and either is currently serving or previously served for at least 12 years.

• Extends tuition assistance to cover both tuition and fees at designated Colorado higher education institutions for up to 132 semester hours or 198 quarter hours, not exceeding 8 years.

• Creates the National Guard Dependents Tuition Assistance Account within the Colorado National Guard Tuition Assistance Fund to separately track dependent assistance payments.

• Allows the adjutant general to transfer excess balance from the dependents account to the main fund if member tuition assistance funding is insufficient in a fiscal year.
