HB 24-1263 Summary

• Allows journeyman electrician and residential wireman license applicants to meet experience requirements using 8,000 hours or 4,000 hours respectively, as alternatives to year-based requirements (4 years and 2 years).

• Permits applicants to count up to 4,000 hours of work with NABCEP-certified photovoltaic installation professionals as practical experience at a 2:1 ratio until July 1, 2029.

• Makes the state electrical board's provision of work experience credit for academic training (including military and photovoltaic training) discretionary rather than mandatory.

• Requires apprentices holding residential wireman licenses to report only commercial, industrial, or substantially similar work experience, and exempts individuals with active residential wireman or master electrician licenses from taking the journeyman electrician examination.

• Establishes DORA duties to uphold the National Electrical Code, cooperate with utility companies on electrical safety standards, allow utilities to install metering equipment with qualified personnel, and subjects all electrical equipment to inspection by authorized authorities.
