HB 24-1298 Summary

• Prohibits labor unions composed of school employees from directly using member dues to promote the election or reelection of any public officer.

• Prohibits labor unions composed of school employees from directly using member dues to promote local or state ballot measures opposed by individual union members.

• Applies to unions representing employees of school districts, institute charter schools, district charter schools, and boards of cooperative services (BOCES).

• Takes effect 90 days after final adjournment of the general assembly, unless subject to a referendum petition, in which case it requires voter approval at the November 2024 general election.
