SB24-013 Summary: Compensation of District Attorneys Office Attorneys

• Beginning July 1, 2026, assistant district attorneys in every judicial district must earn minimum annual compensation equal to a full-time county court judge's salary in Colorado.

• Beginning July 1, 2026, district attorneys in every judicial district must earn minimum annual compensation equal to a full-time district court judge's salary at the time their four-year term begins.

• The state will contribute 80% of the minimum amount required for district attorney salaries and 50% of the minimum amount for assistant district attorney salaries, with counties contributing the balance based on population.

• District attorneys retain authority to set compensation above the minimum amounts for assistant and part-time assistant district attorneys with approval of county commissioners or city council.

• The bill takes effect 90 days after final adjournment of the legislative session, or after approval by voters at the November 2024 election if a referendum petition is filed.
