SB24-066 Summary

• Requires payment card networks to make available the merchant category code for firearms and ammunition businesses to merchant acquirers on and after September 1, 2024.

• Requires merchant acquirers to assign the firearms merchant category code to each firearms merchant they provide payment services to, effective May 1, 2025.

• Voids any contractual waivers of these requirements as contrary to public policy.

• Grants the Colorado Attorney General exclusive enforcement authority with civil penalties up to $10,000 per violation and allows recovery of attorney fees if the state prevails.

• Provides a 30-day cure period after written notice before the Attorney General can bring enforcement action.
