Served in Colorado House of Representatives from 1982-1988 as vice-chair of Business Affairs and Labor committee and served on Health, Environment, Welfare, Institutions, Appropriations, and Finance committees

Elected to Colorado Senate in 1988 and served until December 31, 2001, chairing Local Government and State, Veterans, and Military Affairs committees

Worked over 30 years ago with industry leaders to rewrite Colorado's preneed funeral contracts law to protect residents and create uniform standards for death care providers

Maintained professional credentials as registered parliamentarian beginning in 1979 and completed mediation training at University of Denver in 2000, operating Colorado Mediation, LLC
