Beginning January 1, 2026, persons aged 72 or older may temporarily or permanently opt out of jury service upon request to a judge or jury commissioner

Temporary opt-outs expire as determined by the court, after which the person becomes eligible for juror qualification again

Courts may require documentation to verify age eligibility; such documents are not public records and cannot be disclosed

Requests must be finalized before the scheduled jury service appearance date

Appropriates $10,066 from the general fund for FY 2025-26 to the judicial department ($2,000 for IT infrastructure, $8,066 for trial court costs)
