Commercial motor vehicles using automated driving systems must have a licensed commercial driver physically present in the vehicle, monitoring performance, and ready to intervene if necessary

Drivers must be seated in the driver's seat specifically when transporting hazardous materials

Violations constitute a Class A traffic infraction with a $1,000 penalty plus $150 surcharge for first offense, $2,000 for second offense, and doubling penalties for each subsequent conviction

Light duty vehicles are exempt from these requirements

Effective date is July 1, 2027, subject to potential referendum
