HB 25-1203: Misbranding Cultivated Meat Products as Meat

• Prohibits food processing plants from selling cell-cultivated meat that is misbranded as a meat product by using identifying meat terms (e.g., beef, pork, chicken, bacon, hamburger, sausage) without a qualifying term

• Requires all cell-cultivated meat sold in Colorado to bear a label clearly describing the product as "cell-cultivated meat" in legible type

• Allows use of meat terms on cell-cultivated products if accompanied by conspicuous qualifying terms such as "cell-cultivated," "lab-grown," "meatless," or "imitation" in close proximity

• Authorizes the Department to conduct inspections, issue stop orders and embargo orders for violations, and petition district courts for enforcement

• Takes effect 90 days after legislative adjournment; applies to food labeled or packaged on or after the effective date
