HB 25-1236: Residential Tenant Screening

• Prospective tenants using housing subsidies (such as vouchers) are not required to include credit history reports, credit scores, or adverse credit events in their portable tenant screening reports
• Removes the requirement that portable tenant screening reports must be provided directly by a consumer reporting agency or through a compliant third-party website
• Takes effect January 1, 2026, and applies to rental applications submitted on or after that date
• Subject to potential referendum; if a petition is filed within 90 days after the legislative session ends, the measure would go to voters in November 2026
