Electrical contractors cannot register apprentices in federally-registered construction apprenticeship programs unless the apprentice is enrolled in a program training for an occupation recognized as an electrical occupation (Bureau of Labor Statistics code 47.2111)

Plumbing contractors face the same restriction, requiring apprentices to be in programs training for plumbing or mechanical-related occupations (Bureau of Labor Statistics codes 17.3013, 47.2152, or 49.9021)

State Apprenticeship Agency and Department must establish a data-sharing agreement by July 1, 2027 to verify apprentice eligibility, contingent on available resources or sufficient gifts, grants, or donations

Noncompliant apprentices have 30 days for contractors to provide proof of eligibility and 60 days total for board verification before registration is removed and the apprentice is barred from performing work in the state

Requirements do not apply to apprentices whose training is provided directly by contractors or through training programs not registered with the U.S. Department of Labor or state apprenticeship agencies
