Colorado State Patrol members are exempted from the mandatory bonding requirement if the agency is self-insured through the Colorado State Office of Risk Management and eligible for compensation under section 24-30-1510.5 (5)(g)

Current law requires all State Patrol members to post surety bonds paid for by the state; this creates an exception to that requirement

Amends Colorado Revised Statutes section 24-33.5-208 by adding a new subsection (2) establishing the exception

Takes effect 90 days after final adjournment of the general assembly, unless a referendum petition is filed, in which case voter approval at the November 2026 election would be required
