Large group health benefit plans in Colorado must cover obesity and pre-diabetes treatment, including National Diabetes Prevention Program services, medical nutrition therapy, intensive behavioral/lifestyle therapy, and metabolic/bariatric surgery

Carriers must offer policyholders the option to purchase coverage for FDA-approved anti-obesity medications, including at least one GLP-1 medication, though carriers are not required to offer coverage where premiums would not cover expected benefits

Obesity affects over 24% of Colorado adults, with higher rates among Black (33.4%) and Latino (31%) residents; more than 1 in 4 youth ages 10-17 are overweight or experiencing obesity

The Children's Basic Health Plan (CHP+) is explicitly excluded from these mandatory coverage requirements

Takes effect January 1, 2027, applying to large group health benefit plans issued or renewed on or after that date
