Municipal jails must comply with jail standards adopted by the legislative oversight committee beginning July 1, 2027, and with all existing county jail data collection requirements and oversight provisions

Municipal jails are limited to holding any person for no more than 72 hours

Pregnant persons in labor must be released from municipal jail custody unless remaining is necessary for their health or welfare; if released, they must be offered hospital transportation and released on an unsecured personal recognizance bond

Restraints are prohibited on pregnant persons during labor, delivery, and postpartum recovery at municipal jails; if these events occur at the jail, staff must create a written record documenting the occurrence

City governing body members must personally examine their municipal jail at least once per year to assess management, sufficiency, and correct any irregularities found
