HB 26-1090: Teacher Licensing Requirements

• Limits misdemeanor disclosure requirements for teacher license applicants to convictions within the past 7 years, except for misdemeanors committed against at-risk persons or children, which must be disclosed regardless of date
• All felony convictions must still be disclosed regardless of when they occurred
• Requires the Department of Education to waive the program of preparation/alternative teacher program requirement for applicants with at least 2 years of full-time private school teaching experience in Colorado
• Requires the Department of Education to waive the induction program requirement for professional teacher license applicants with at least 2 years of full-time private school teaching experience in Colorado
• Takes effect August 12, 2026, unless a referendum petition is filed
