Local school board directors must be elected only by voters residing within their specific director district, replacing the current at-large voting system where all district voters select all board members

School districts with 6,500 or fewer students are exempt from the director-district voting requirement and may continue using at-large elections based on their plan of representation

The enrollment threshold is evaluated based on the current school year or any of the five preceding school years before a director election

Districts subject to the new director-district voting requirement are prohibited from changing their representation plan to an at-large system

Effective date is August 12, 2026, unless a referendum petition is filed, in which case it would require voter approval at the November 2026 general election
