Transportation brokers must contract with at least 5 transportation providers to serve Medicaid members for nonemergency medical transportation services.

Transportation providers must have at least 3 years of experience, operate a dispatch center with driver monitoring, maintain physical office space, offer online booking via website, and implement driver training, vehicle inspections, and substance use testing programs.

Medicaid members can preapprove nonemergency medical transportation and choose a preferred transportation provider.

Payment for nonemergency medical transportation trips of 52 miles or more must be issued to the provider within 14 calendar days of receiving the claim.

Transportation brokers must conduct annual performance reviews of contracted providers, handle all scheduling and billing, maintain detailed records, and promptly resolve client complaints.
